We are pleased to welcome two serTA members to lead our March workshop.

In the morning Deborah Draffin will share her experience of teaching children in a regular class as well as looking at one-off sessions for groups which will be useful for those of us asked to teach taster sessions for Brownies, Cubs etc

Deborah has been teaching Scottish Country dancing for over 25 years and is a member of the Berks, Hants, Surrey Borders RSCDS Branch. As well as running a weekly class for children, she has also been teaching local schools, groups from the Scouts and Girl Guide movements and at music festivals. She believes in emphasising the fun of dancing, in the hope that these happy memories will encourage younger dancers to continue as adults.

In the afternoon Ken Martlew will lead a session on keeping your class moving to music.  Ken believes that there is far too much walking and talking in many SCD classes, and will lead a workshop exploring teaching methods that reduce these to a minimum. "A dance class should consist of music and and dancing”.  He would love to have your support, and to share your ideas on this fundamental topic.

Ken has taught and played in many countries for some 45 years, and was recently awarded a Scroll of Honour by the RSCDS.  In addition, he was a GP with a particular interest in osteopathy, and has considerable experience of attending casualties of all sorts on and around the dance floor.

Farnham Common Village Hall is a new venue for serTA workshops. Located in Buckinghamshire, the hall is near Slough and Beaconsfield stations for trains and also has parking.
